Trying to sprite Spectre
« on: July 03, 2009, 11:44:41 PM »
so i've made a couple edits, but i'm having difficulty merging them. i'm lost on trying to do it on gimp, and apparently i keep hitting the wrong thing with ms paint.

anyway, need help merging these:

also, want to recolor cap's body, but what should i do definition lines first, change them all to black? and is there a quick way to do that first?

First, using the free form select in ms paint, copy paste the top part of dr doom (head and shoulders) on Captain America. be patient with yourself if you don't get it the first time, it takes some practice to get it right in one shot.

next past this on the dr doom cape

then just fill in the blank spots

does that all make sense??

For those who are curious, yes I am gone and I don't intend to be back soon. I never formally said goodbye to you all, because that always becomes a forum stink. However, to my friends here, I wish you the best. Perhaps I'll be back one day but for now this is goodbye.

Woup a bit too late, seems someone already explained ^^

Ah you're using gimp. Can't really help with that, i never used that program (i've been a photoshop user for years).
I think Spidermew tutorial at infinity could be usefull since this is the program he is using if i recall right.

i thought i tried all that, using ms paint actually, but it did not work the first few times.

but i must have clicked something different the next time and got this:

so now my question is this. having trouble finding the colors to fill out the cape a little more, plus i want to recolor whatever, but is there an easy way to do that? and what do i do with the detail lines exactly?

btw, i'm kinda proud of the head. might be able to be done better in general by someone more experienced, but to me, i think it turned out really well.

Here i made you a little quick guide about how to edit cap into spectre.
And i strongly recomend changing program, if i remember right you can't work on multiple layers or erase a color with mspaint right ? This must make the cut and paste work far more difficult than it should be.

photoshop CS3, not a free program alas but since i need it for other things i've never really tried anything else. So quick selection, paint bucket and unchecked adjacent pixels for half of it, the pencil for the rest.

Paint/net probably could do the same things when it comes to sprite editing, i heard it is pretty similar to gimp with a simplier interface. Just try its tools to see what they do, or ask spooky ^^

Btw i stole your toaster too ^^

Gimp is the same as PSP CS4.

By the way, was wondering. The spectre is same one that is featured in kingdom come (hey i know some dc books, just not familiar with the chars) ?
If so i think he could fly right ? Would be a good idea to research a flying stance in that case, would make things easier for the walk.

well, this is still in the maybe considering phase, lol.

that said, this question is for Z and anyone else.

if he did have a flying stance, would it then be weird if he had crouch attacks or other moves where his feet are on the ground?

Ooops my bad ^^

To answer : crouch attacks no, just look at storm there is no problem with that, as long as he would have a normal crouch.
Moves with feet on the ground yes that would probably look weird.

actually, it might not be so bad. the following characters have a stance in the air and use flying for walking, but then have some form of movement based on the ground
-superman by kal elvis ans hannibal

-bizarro
-green lantern
-zatanna
-fire
-martian manhunter
-iron lanter
-magneto

-captain mar-vell
