Simple way to remove BG from sprites?
« on: December 02, 2009, 07:41:01 AM »
Is there a simple way to do this? I mainly use paint.net, but also have graphics gale and ms paint.

The bad thing about this question is the only tools that can do that require that the background be all one color. Or close too. I usually use Magic Eraser in Photoshop or the Color selection tool in Gimp. Both those tools function a little differently.

If all else fails I just go with the Lasso tool and select around the sprite I want and select cut to get the sprite.

lasso tool too hard sometimes and doesnt take into effect when the background is within the sprite for the case in question.

however, i am asking about just removing the one color background using ms paint, graphics gale, or paint.net.

when you said magic eraser, made me think of paint.net's magic wand. while i'm sure it has other uses, i was able to figure out how to use it to solve my problem :)

Okay cool. I forgot all about the wand. the wand is a universal tool in most paint applications. But I think its more of a crop tool though.

What I do, is take the lasso tool the image, just leave a bit exposed in the corner, then I copy the image, after that, I delete the layer, then paste the image back as a layer, if it has a single color background I just color select with anti-aliasing off, and click delete, then bye-bye background. Unless you mean removing a background image or you can't do this on paint.net.  Hope this helps.
I have the perfect body. (But it's in the trunk and starting to stink.)
