jlg6184's Sprite Edits
« on: June 24, 2009, 04:40:17 PM »
Hey, figured everyone else is posting their edits, so I figured I'd start throwing mine up here. These are just edits, and I don't have any ambitions of making them into full characters at this point, but some may be used in some fashion down the road. I am currently working on a character (possible announcement coming in the upcoming weeks--don't quote me though).

Red Tornado:

Base: MamboJambo's Green Lantern
This was originally to be my first character, but due to several computer issues (mainly a power surge from my power supply that took out my mobo, video card, and hard drive), this character will never see the light of day, atleast by my hands.

Red Robin

Base: MamboJambo's Green Lantern
This is something I just threw together over the last hour, just so I wasn't posting a five month old sprite as my only edit. But anyway, I was intrigued by the Red Robin character, and figured it warranted an hour of my time. Since I only put about an hour into this, the shading and colors may be just a bit off.

Update:
Random Vampire

Base: Alex (from Street Fighter 3)
This was going to be something else entirely, but I got going with the face and well, loved how it turned out (if I do say so myself.) Anyway, this is just a random vampire. I needed the practice on recoloring anyway, so almost everything except for the head, is a simple recolor. The majority of the time spent (took about an hour), was spent just on the head and hair (which also was originally Alex, believe it or not).

shame about the computer trouble as red tornado looks really good. red robin looks decent too, but i'll defer to our resident batman experts for real comment.

i can't wait to see the full character announcement :)

Thanks, I would have loved to pick back up and start over with Red Tornado, but after losing what I had done, I just couldn't stand to start over. I now have a few more backups in place so I won't lose any other work I may have.

Not sure how long it will be before the announcement, as some of the base spriting is currently held up, as I have my kids this week. The Red Robin only came about because the kids decided that I couldn't play the games with them, lol. So I went to the computer to sprite something a bit different.

Thanks mate, I don't feel I have the talent of half the folks that I see creating, but I will take that compliment.

Red Robin looks awesome, man! He's my second favourite comic book character aside from Batman, and you made him so cool!!

Thanks mate, hopefully I may find time for more edits in the future, possibly could take requests as well, lol, but they would have to be off the beaten path, as I would prefer to stay away from overdone edits...

Also, updated first post with a quick sprite edit.

Those look awesome man. 8) 8)
I think on Red Robin though, if you were to make the inside of his cape (the part behind his legs) a little lighter, that would help bring out his legs more. Also, if you were to make the highlights on his torso a little lighter, and the darks a little darker, that would bring out more detail in him. Maybe just make the highlights 10-15% lighter and the darks 10-15% darker than the midtone color on his torso. Same thing on Red Tornado, but either just make the highlights lighter or the darks a little darker, not both, and that would also help bring out some more detail on him. That's just my opinion and I could be wrong. It's something to try though. As for the Random Vampire, he looks awesome. Maybe just make the shadows under his cheeks a little darker to show some more depth on his face. Again, that's just my opinion. I can't wait to see some more stuff though. Those three are pretty dang good.

Alright, I don't think I am going to update the Red Tornado or the Red Robin, as they are currently just one off sprites, but I may take the Vamp. into consideration and play with his looks a bit, never know that Blade that is coming out may have just met his match...lol...But in all seriousness, thanks for the advice and compliments, as I will try to apply some of those methods to future sprites.

That's cool. They look good either way, that was just the only things I could think of that might make them look better. The vampire rocks though, and Blade just might have met his match like you said.  :)

i like the vamp man, skin is perfect, maybe try frankenspriting, using some one's legs, other's arms, etc.

i think red robin is your best one by far, looks flawless, i wonder wat he looks like next to his step brothers and adoptive father???

hmmmm

Thanks for the advice and feedback on my edits, it really helps me in trying to get my skills in check. The main reason the majority of the Vamp is Alex *recolored* is I was practicing trying to sprite hair, and completely re-work a face to make it look vastly different than the original.
