Xbox Problem
« on: August 31, 2009, 12:18:09 PM »
Hey YD. Question. I have an old xbox and the drive is stuck. I don't think a disc is in there but I was wondering if there was special way to remove the top. I started ripping it but it seems that microsoft wanted to be bastards and somehow welded the plastic and metal together.

I figure you would know since you have that tutorial for x mugen which uses the modded xbox.

It depends on what version of drive you have and dvd drives are usually help together by screws and clips, If it looks like its melted then there may be overheating issues with the Xbox itself or something else. The reason for the stuck drive could be as simple as a broken or melted gear to a dirty drive belt.

I can see the drive being dirty cause the person that originally had it where smokers.

The drive actually opens like an inch and gets stuck so I dont know. Doesnt seem like anything is in it though.
Its not melted actually. There is like 5 plastic columns that are attached to the plastic top. Then under that is a metal sheet. Those columns are melded on the sheet on each corner and in the center.

If I cant fix it I'll just break it and keep the drives. That HD would come in handy. I wanna play CVS2, Hunter the Reckoning: Redeemer and XGRA though. And XMugen I guess.

Take pics of the drive and post so I know what model you have. Its kind of hard to help while in the dark. you could always try to gently pull the drive as its opening to see if that can at least got it to open. Sounds like either the drive belt has too much dust on it or the drive gear snapped in half. There are many tutorials at www.xboxscene.com/ with pics for Xbox dismantle and drive tuts as well that might be a better place to look for info.
