It's Usually 200 x 240, in any case I have uploaded a template of mine for reference. :)

on the subject of that, i know how to swap out hyper pics for characters, but how do you add a hyper pic (or 2) to a character that does not have them already.

Its the same as adding any image/sprite to a character. Or are you asking for instructions/tutorial?

Well the hyper move itself use an animation for presenting the hyper portrait, so numbering the image should not be the problem, its not like a protrait its more like a move animation. All you would need to do is add the image make an animation, number the animation to a non existent animation and then code the hyper protrait into the hyper move code. You can just use any existing hyper for reference for the code and animation creation.
