You name the palette whatever you want then you open up the character's .def file and add you pal to the coding.

Example:

[Info]
name = "SplatterHouse Rick"        ;Name of character
displayname = "Rick" ;Name of character to display
versiondate = 9,10,2007    ;Version date of character (MM-DD-YYYY)
mugenversion = 04,14,2001   ;Version of M.U.G.E.N character works on
author = "YoungDragun"         ;Character author name
pal.defaults = 1,2,3      ;Default palettes in order of preference <------ This has to be changed if you adding a palette or can stay the same if you replacing one.

; Files for the player
[Files]
cmd     = rick.cmd   ;Command set
cns     = rick.cns   ;Constants
st      = rick.cns   ;States
stcommon = common.cns ;Common states
sprite  = rick.sff   ;Sprite
anim    = rick.air   ;Animation
sound   = rick.snd   ;Sound
pal1    = rick.act  ;Palettes (can have up to 12)
pal2    = rick2.act
pal3    = rick3.act
<----------- These are the names of the palettes, so if your replacing one change the name of one of them or if you adding one then you would insert anotherline like so:
Pal4    = rick4.act / Just make sure you made the palettes name the same as the line you added and then save this .def file and then add the custom palette to you characters folder.

; Arcade mode
[Arcade]
;intro.storyboard = intro\intro.def
;ending.storyboard = end\ending.def

You add and edit the lines of code of the .def files with regular notepad that every OS comes with. you can use FF but you don't need to, this way is less confusing for noobs.

IF you posted before that the solution I posted solved your problem, why did you open another thread on this subject? If you do not get a fix to your problem with any solution I post then please post back your actions and all the steps and items you are using and most importantly post that it did not help. For one you do not know how to post a help question correctly and it makes me have to jump through hoops to find the root of your problem, I don't mind much cause I know some people are better at explaining then others but it makes it harder for me to first, find your problem, then second, help you solve it. I am not mad about this I am just posting this to let you know and others that I will help with any problems you may have and nothing is considered in my eyes as a stupid question. I only ask that you post honestly and that you post as much info as you can so that it betters your chances of getting your problem corrected. Second, if the info I provide does not solve your problem then do not lie about it or if it does then you do something else thinking it will work the same and it doesn't, do not post that the info I provide for another solution to a different problem that worked, doesn't work cause your trying it on something other than what it was intended for. And finally if you do not want my help then say so and I'll let someone else try and help you with your problem, but if anyone continues to post here I will do what I can to help but please for the love of God, post exactly what the problem is and give as much information as possible.  :)

PS: If all else fails you can upload your items to a site like 4 shared or sendspace ( which are free file sharing sites, or use whatever you want) and post a link to me in a PM if you do not want to post stuff here for the prying eyes of others, and include a note telling what you want to do and I will try and help you with it, I would prefer you to post all stuff in this thread so that it helps others but if your stuff is private and you do not want to share then you can send it to me and let me know that its private stuff and I will keep it that way and help you however I can. If you go this route please do not try and send me a virus however as it will not work and will get you banned from this site for good and you won't be allowed back in as we will block your IP address >:(
