Changing SP backgrounds
« on: January 11, 2010, 04:38:18 PM »
Is changing screenpack backgrounds as easy as switching out two pcx files in Fighter Factory??
For those who are curious, yes I am gone and I don't intend to be back soon. I never formally said goodbye to you all, because that always becomes a forum stink. However, to my friends here, I wish you the best. Perhaps I'll be back one day but for now this is goodbye.

yes but is it an animation (Anim) or a single sprite (Normal)?

Also you should be familiar with adjusting for size difference too.

Well resizing is done to the basic image in an image editing program like usual. Gimp, Photoshop, Etc.

Put if you are putting an image that is of a different size than the previous image you will need to adjust the x and y axis of it in Fighter Factory and save. Then you have to start mugen and see if the image is in the place you want it.

Its a pretty simple editing process really. Same as how you do characters.

FIrst we find the common background color. So all the images can have the same transparency. Like you would a character sprite.

Second convert to indexed then save as .pcx when you finish changing the background to the same color. I used those black bars on the top and bottom of the image. You have to resize the image too. If I remember right the full screen size for mugen is 640x480.

Third add or change the sprite in fighter factory. And save as individual layers. I just added the sprite in to test it instead. If you add apply the group numbers before selecting okay. I used 6,0.

In the system.def, and this is probably your problem, the background sprite is 5,0. There are 2 of these sprites, TitleBG2. You can get rid of them if you want just use ";" on each line. dont apply the group number of your new image to these cause it has those extra codings, like velocity and transparency.

I chose to keep them instead. Each image is layered. So if you want to put the image behind the nice animation. The new image is in teal and the velocity animation is the next 2. Then save.

[TitleBG 2]
type = normal
spriteno = 6,0
start = 0,0
mask=0

[TitleBG 2]
type  = normal
spriteno = 5,0
start = 0, 10
tile = 1,0
velocity = -7
trans = add
mask = 0

[TitleBG 2]
type  = normal
spriteno = 5,0
start = 0, 10
tile = 1,0
velocity = -4
trans = add
mask = 0

I didnt resize the image so mine looks like this.
