YouTube Blackout day
« on: July 14, 2009, 07:51:12 AM »
Please try not to log into YouTube today as trying to support the event many people have put in place, YouTube Blackout.

This is to protest YouTube forcing people to change channel layouts.

So do not watch Mugen videos today in hopes it will help this cause.

could you explain this one. I don't quite follow what the issue at stake is.
For those who are curious, yes I am gone and I don't intend to be back soon. I never formally said goodbye to you all, because that always becomes a forum stink. However, to my friends here, I wish you the best. Perhaps I'll be back one day but for now this is goodbye.

Well, basically YouTube is forcing new channel layouts on people. This last ditch effort is to try and get YouTube to allow the change in layout as a choice for all by slowing up the traffic to them.

It should be a choice, so not sure why forcing.

I even changed the name of the Show and Tell section and described it as please do not watch today. I'll alter back tomorrow.

I thought about moving the whole section to the dump, but thought I would screw something up,
lol.

There would have been a review today if not for this effort, and i removed the link to today's mugen video's from the community link section too.

not sure how much this will do. there was major outcry when facebook changed profile layouts but they just did it anyways. I guess it can't hurt though.

not to be negative or anything but its not going to work. This is exactly how people reacted when Facebook changed the profiles and people hated it. They're going to do what they want regardless since millions more wont even know or care about how a channel looks

whats it hurt to try though?

at least it will give them pause to try and force things next time when they think about the ad revenue they might have lost from less traffic, whatever less it was.

These might be extreme examples but, if everyone had that why bother way of thinking...

- US would still be segregated
- No equal rights for women
- British rule in the US
- No recycling

...and you can go on. Yes, extreme examples, but you get my point. If some people want to try, that is their prerogative to do whatever to try and change something, even in cases such as this.

Besides, like I said before, what can it hurt?

I don't like how your being force to change to the new layout and I personally don't like the new look.
I hope that they will give us a choice.

LOL, sorry but your comparisons seem quite humorous. Comparing a channel setup on youtube with the movements to grant equal rights, or to de-segregate. The comparisons are night and day. I mean what you listed with the exception of the recycling movement, are things that adversely affected lives of people, thus inspiring people to rise up and change something they didn't agree with, which were mainly laws. What you and others seem to be whining about is the fact that a company wants to change something on one of "THEIR" websites. I mean if CVG decided to become a Woman's Specialty shop, what would give me the right to protest. It is not my site, I don't pay for the hosting nor do I pay for the domain name. Now the those that pay for this site to be ran and maintained would have some room/reason to complain, but what everyone else wants doesn't really matter. Just my two cents, and yes I used an extreme too (I didn't want to be the only one not using extremes).

But on the other hand, I do agree that it couldn't possibly hurt, unless google/youtube decided that those people who started this movement or commented on that particular video were people they no longer cared to offer services to, and decided to do mass IP bans...

i was not comparing the youtube thing to those historical causes. i was using them as extreme examples of my main point, if everyone had that why bother way of thinking.

I know, I was just giving you a hard time...If you re-read what you typed, you can't really blame me for wanting to give you a bit of a hard time for it...

A wise man (no clue who, could be a woman for all I know actually) once said "Choose your battles".

Honestly a change in layout isn't a big deal, and they're probably doing it for our benefit so I don't see what the issue is. I've stayed off youtube today out of repect for you V, but I honestly don't see much merit in this.

Yeah, I understand that, I actually haven't been to Youtube today either, but that is beside the point, I seen good opportunity to give him some crap, and I couldn't help but take that opportunity...lol

I really shouldn't have done so, so my apologies Volz, it was all in good humor. I mean I remember signing petitions for canceled TV shows that didn't help anything...
