Beta testing and incomplete characters
« on: May 19, 2009, 09:30:37 AM »
Just wondering peoples thoughts on these. I'll share my own thoughts which will hopefully get the ball rolling.

With beta testing, early on in my mugen time i figured out a pretty good pattern and thought process with some testing. I thought I could help contribute in that way in regards to feedback. I had asked someone about implementing it (a member here actually), but because I was so new to the community, that never went anywhere, and never really brought it up again to people.

Since then, I did a little bit of testing when asked, screenpack for Dragonesku and an unnamed character. Both times I thought I helped whoever, but it helped solidify that I'll never ask about doing such, and will just consider doing so when asked.

With incomplete characters, I'm a little strict there. I only care about characters that offer some sense of enjoyment either while playing or watching. This is also the case because I have a very limited hard drive on my computer, so have to pick carefully or there will be too much glout. An example of this is, I used to be semi okay with the incomplete Wonderman out there. But then the first time I saw that video of the new one by ZVitor, JasonTodd, and daraku, I thought screw this guy as he sucks compared to what might be coming soon.

So now, because of the small harddrive (have about 5 GB free) and thoughts on enjoyment, my most incomplete chars is The invisible woman by AngelicCharon. And some days I debate deleting her because of those thoughts. Needless to say, because of those limitations on the hard drive and general thoughts, I've never been someone that thinks needs whatever to fill out a roster, as its more than just having a roster to me. Its a balance between fun and hard drive space.

What do you all think about beta  testing and incomplete chars?

lol I think you need an external harddrive V  ;D
For those who are curious, yes I am gone and I don't intend to be back soon. I never formally said goodbye to you all, because that always becomes a forum stink. However, to my friends here, I wish you the best. Perhaps I'll be back one day but for now this is goodbye.

what do you think about beta testing chars is one question.

another question is, what do you care more about when filling out a roster, just having a roster spot that might have to be filled with an incomplete char, or do the chars you want in your roster have to be more complete and enjoyable.

I think beta testing is a very needed thing...the issue of who to let test is a whole other matter. I don't know why it causes so much drama when the rule should be simple...if you trust the person let them test if not don't. No need to make a big deal if nothing is leaked.

One thing I've never understood is alpha releases or even Betas that aren't 75%+  done...can't people just wait till the character is finished?

The feedback you get from the general public who try to give honest critique is by far more valuable than beta testers. People all play Mugen differant 2-3 people dont ever help as much as dozens of people who play the characters.

I prefer to release Alpha's, and beta's and learn from the public. Sometimes you cant tell when something is complete from your point of view so multiple releases are needed/
