MUGEN On The PSP
« on: April 29, 2009, 01:56:59 PM »
Well after some thinking and encouragement from Volzzilla I have come to the decision to share one of my tutorials. Here is my tutorial on how to get a version of MUGEN to play on your PSP that has a custom or hacked firmware, enjoy!

I have to warn you that although it is very cool to have a portal version of MUGEN this version is very slow if played with large (MB wise is what I'm refering to) converted characters, but its still cool anyways to show to others that have no idea what MUGEN is and the reaction on their faces when they see it and when they SEE it on your PSP.

The follwing text is from my tutorial and you can download a copy of this same tut here;

http://www.adrive.com/public/f7294a64fe8cbcddf17d888f218fed6c2998d52fd725d6d37655f309ab16c70d.html

or you can just copy and paste to notepad.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< MUGEN FOR PSP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This is still a beta so keep in mind that its not perfect. Heres everything you need for it to run on your PSP:

Infinity Cat for PSP ----- Available at http://www.adrive.com/public/ff868c47fc0a12e1fd474ae262e5df5683067d4fbde32abdb0018b685c36f248.html

( Infinity Cat is a program for the PSP that allows you to play mugen on the PSP. You can add your own characters, stages, etc. but not all characters will work on this mugen, also you will need to convert your mugen characters or else they will not playable. Converting guide below. Also you can play this game online with others. )

--- Converting your own characters ---

1. Download the original Win Mugen ----- Available at http://www.adrive.com/public/d184c6709601bd3fac6e2b5b27bb5ed8890310e4bc60b558520b5b9a3f096654.html

2. Download Infinity cat program ----- Available at http://www.adrive.com/public/6820ca3f6ee0aa92a01e3d30dc73d6dc28c267f12d0a63a37c162efcd0e0ff81.html

3. Extract the Win Mugen

4. Run the Inifinity Cat setup

5. Go to the installed directory default directory "C:\Program Files\InfinityCat20070121"
---> My computer --> Local Disk --> Program Files --> InfinityCat20070121

6. Copy all the files in that folder and paste it to the Win Mugen folder and replace all files

7. Download/Add a mugen character to the "Char" folder

8. Right click the bat file that you see named "kfm_convert.bat" aka MS-DOS Batch File and select "Edit" you should see this:

StConv_Win32Release.exe kfm kfm.bin > kfm.log
copy kfm.bin chars\kfm

8. Replace the name kfm in kfm_convert to the character you are converting for example it should look like this: (I will use Gouki for an example)

StConv_Win32Release.exe kfm kfm.bin > kfm.log
copy kfm.bin chars\gouki

9. Save the bat and run it

10. After the converting you should see 2 files a log and a bin delete the log copy the bin and paste it into the characters folder my example is gouki.

Now the converting is done add the converted character to your psp in the GAME or GAME150 folder then inside the "__SCE__InfCat" folder you should see a folder name "Chars" put your characters there.

--- Add the Infinity Cat to your PSP ---

1. Download Infinity Cat

2. Extract, you should see 2 folders "%__SCE__InfCat" & '__SCE__InfCat' if you have a 1.5 then put the folders to your GAME folder if you have a custom firmware then put it in the GAME150 folder.

--- Adding your characters ---

1. Open up Infinity Cat (The version for the PSP) go to the data folder inside the folder named

"__SCE__InfCat" open the file "select.def"

2. You should see something like this:

kfm, stages/kfm.def

3. Add the characters name under kfm, stages/kfm.def for example it should look like this:

kfm, stages/kfm.def
gouki

now you can select your character.

NOTE: Its very important that you rename the kfm.bin to the characters name for example gouki.bin or else the character will not detected.

Well I felt like sharing so there you have it. Peace love and hair grease,

Can I install different screenpacks for InfinityCat and would I have to convert it somehow first, or is the basic screenpack all you can use? Just curious cause I just modded my psp.

I haven't tried to change the screenpack as seeing as I was able to get it working in the first place I left it alone being that sometimes when you alter MUGEN coding things tend to get a little hairy if you catch my drift. Also forgot to mention that there is no sound. I haven't figured out yet how to get that working  but I am happy with it being playable at this stage of testing. When I get a chance I will load a file with it packed with characters and I will try and see if it is possible to change the screenpack. Keep in mind though it has to be pretty small in size cause the PSP only has 333MHZ to play with and that ain't squat not to mention the size of MC's.
Peace.

@Esn: I haven't played around with this in a long time so I don't remember if I ever got the stages working but I did however manage to change the screenpack. You have to swap a bunch of files and SP items to get it to work, essentially you are just modifying the original MUGEN itself so basically you are creating you own SP. Again I haven't messed with this in a long time and if it doesn't work with the current CFW that is out then you'll have to use a downgraded 1.5 or wait till I figure it out. If you want post your info, current CFW and such and I will see if I have time to figure it out and post a fix if you need one. Peace.
