Mugen Madness AI Tournament Recap v1.0
« on: June 28, 2009, 02:53:55 PM »
For those of you that did not know, I put on an AI Mugen fight tournament back in March for Favorite Fiction. I figured our Show and Tell section would be a good place to lump them altogether, and generate discussion on the next tournament, that might be CVG United only (have not decided).

How this worked was, I figured out 32 characters with semi close-ish AI fight ability at the time (Savage Hulk has since been updated, so he wouldn't qualify any longer). Then had people from throughout the various Mugen forum communities select a fighter from that group to represent them in first come, first serve capacity.

I would then stage these fights out and broadcast them on YouTube, and the character left standing would win their representative the ability to choose future content for Favorite Fiction blog to be written by me.

The fight format was 3 on 3, with that same character slotted into each position on each side. This simulates a best of 5 fight, but with an attrition factor. The following fight was a preview of such to show off that fight format:
Favorite Fiction Tourney Preview: Rorschach vs Colossus

These were the brackets:
Group A
Martian Manhunter --- Sabranigudu
The Joker --- Super_Joker
Cable --- Technology
Green Lantern --- Darkmoon766
Spiderman --- QuEazy BaBy
Storm --- Gate
Savage Hulk --- Hyperion76
Bane --- bizarro_toro

Group B
Quasar --- bdcirck
Hobgoblin --- Hollow Boy
Psylocke --- Kojunho
Deadpool --- M.Chidori
Ms.Marvel --- ace_tales
Lobo --- garyoldman
Spawn --- Spooky77
*BYE*

Group C
Thing --- Batzarro
Silver Surfer --- techimuyo4ever
Mr.Fantastic --- DarkTalbain
Rogue --- Uche
Aquaman --- zvitor
Iron Man --- Djoulz
Bishop --- race45
Robin --- JasonTodd

Group D
Jean Grey --- da_linkwent
Batman --- Manic
Etrigan --- Twinimage
Carnage --- maxdillon
Rorschach --- ivan_kou
Cyclops --- AngelM
Blackcat --- krazy_cueball
Green Arrow --- Buyog

Again, the main reason for this thread is because there were some 40 fights or so in this tournament that are perfect for a Show and Tell section, as well as to open up discussion about doing the next tournament.

This is the preliminary roster I was thinking of for CVG's Mugen Madness Tourney:

Superman w/AI patch
Lex Luthor
Batman by Alucard
Ferroman
Juggernaut by Splode
Sabertooth by Jin Kazema w/AI patch
Cable by Cloudius w/AI patch
Wolverine by Vyn
Colossus by Cloudius w/AI patch
Marrow by Sludge w/AI set to max
Thor
Savage Hulk, newest version
Wonderman
Sentry
Crystal
Thing

All of these guys (except Thor) were tested against Thor and either split 2 matches, or fought him very close in 2 matches.

Thoughts?

well, that storm is a little weaker than the field, and the latest version of ice is pretty buggy.

plus, wanted to spread the roster out as much as possible from scruffy characters since list a bulk of them already.

what about deadpool and nightcrawler??
For those who are curious, yes I am gone and I don't intend to be back soon. I never formally said goodbye to you all, because that always becomes a forum stink. However, to my friends here, I wish you the best. Perhaps I'll be back one day but for now this is goodbye.

Those 2 aren't strong enough for this next tourney. But we do have something new in store for them both (and others) later :)

Coming back to the Recap of the original Mugen Madness tourney I'd been posting in this thread. Doing so because news of v2.0 of the tournament is coming soon.

These were the Quarterfinals.

Easter Eggs to look for:
- One match makes me reconsider the thought of match of the tourney was in the 2nd round
- Two characters who were recently in major movies 'debate' who's movie was better
- One character says, "Don't make me angry, you won't like me when I'm angry"...and it was NOT the Hulk
- Will it strike midnight on the Cinderella story?
-Debut of a brand new stage (as it was back in March) with download location

Group A
Martian Manhunter --- representing Sabranigudu
Vs.
Savage Hulk --- representing Hyperion76

Favorite Fiction Tournament: Martian Manhunter vs. Savage Hulk

Group B

With v2.0 of Mugen Madness coming soon, I thought this would be a good time to finish up the recap of the original tournament.

Semifinals
-------------

Savage Hulk --- representing Hyperion76
Vs.
Lobo --- representing garyoldman

Favorite Fiction Tournament Semi Final Savage Hulk vs Lobo

Thing --- representing Batzarro
Vs.
Rorschach --- representing ivan_kou

Final Rematch: The Thing vs. Rorschach

Finals
---------

Thing --- representing Batzarro
Vs.
Savage Hulk --- representing Hyperion76

Mugen March Madness Finals: The Thing vs. Savage Hulk

The finals were done in a best of 3 format. The finals for v2.0 will be the same. Some exciting fights throughout this initial event, which will hopefully by matched or surpassed in the sequel. Who knows, maybe there will be a champions face off afterwards.
