The Dark Knight Returns
« on: July 24, 2009, 12:51:28 AM »
Years ago, Me & the rest of Team Spoiler began working on a Dark Knight Returns Batman which we referred to as DKR. The project was never completed due to sprite problems and other complications.

Quote from: ALEXZIQ
It was a group project like IMT Batman. Like most group projects it had a ton of problems. Everyone used different palette, and colors so it was a real mess needing someone dedicated to fixing up the sprites. No one took up the challenge...

I've already began re-editing old sprites to make a master palette, fix the bat logos, and fix the belts. Once that's done I plan on making some new sprites.

Hope you're as excited as I am for this.  :)

Does the justice league permit steroid enhancement??
For those who are curious, yes I am gone and I don't intend to be back soon. I never formally said goodbye to you all, because that always becomes a forum stink. However, to my friends here, I wish you the best. Perhaps I'll be back one day but for now this is goodbye.

I was happy as hell when Jay said he still had interest in this bad boy. It really fits into the theme of the project as well. We have some pretty badazz Wips going on in this project.

I think when the 3 upcoming chracters get released we'll get even more interest, and support on the project.

Is this a forum w.i.p or is this your own personal w.i.p?Either way, looking forward to what you have planned.

Origionally it was a forum WIP. One of the 1st ones attempted to my knowledge. It's been in limbo for a looooong time, because of the problems with multiple spriters. Jays just taken it upon himself to fix him up.

If you never read it you should read The Dark Knight Returns. Frank Miller creator of Sin City, and 300, and also considered to be the definative writer of Batman, Daredevil, Wolverine, Electra, and many others has a drawing style thats very pumped up, and over the top.

You can also see this look in the Animated Series episode "Legends of the Dark Knight" which is a bonus feature on the Gotham Night DVD

looks good you all.

but have 1 question, just to keep things straight for myself. how many batman chars (not counting beyond) in this project? for some reason i'm thinking there were 2 before and this guy would make #3?

thats no knock btw, i'm all for that sort of thing :)

It Would be Batman, Beyond, and DKR Batman.

Considering the story is time travel based it works really well. Batman grows to the old age of DKR Batman, retires, Terry Becomes Batman Beyond.

For the sake of the story of course.

This thing's going smoothly already!  :D

I was able to force the sprites to a 20 color palette

The old palette had 254 colors with over 50 different types of blue!  ???

Not sure if you'd be interested or not, Jay, but you're free to use my Rhino as a base for this Bats. All the cleaning up and muscle definition (to the legs/chest) is there and ready to go. Always loved this look on Bats, that's why I'm offering up the base. =D
