McFarlane Starts Writing New Spawn Movie

August 23, 2009

"Spawn" creator Todd McFarlane has announced that he has officially begun writing the screenplay for a new movie based on the character.

"The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years," McFarlane said. "The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a standalone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary."

He added that "the tone of this 'Spawn' movie will be for a more older audience. Like the film 'Departed.'"

In August of 1997, New Line released a Spawn movie that grossed $87.8 million worldwide. It starred Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo and Martin Sheen.

No fricking way!!! This is awesome! I've always wanted him to make another Spawn movie since the other one sucked so bad. It didn't really capture the character all that well, and it was just boring. This is some of the best news I've had in a while. I'm going to look into this right now. Thanks for letting us know.

Creepy and scary?  R-rated, even!?   ;D

If these are the supposed selling points, then my hopes aren't exactly high.

Meh I hate to be a party pooper but  I'm really not stoked for this. First I just don't think you can capture spawn in a movie. Second I'm rather pissed that he is replacing Burke and Twitch with some douchey detective played by Leo DeCaprio, who will be the lead character rather than Spawn.  >:(
For those who are curious, yes I am gone and I don't intend to be back soon. I never formally said goodbye to you all, because that always becomes a forum stink. However, to my friends here, I wish you the best. Perhaps I'll be back one day but for now this is goodbye.

because mcfarlane said so in a press release.  :'( why couldn't it be a new animated series. they actually did a good job with that.

Leo's hogging the spotlight as usual, eh? I don't mind in most cases, but you shouldn't do that to Spawn. :(
