I don't know if this is known or not (as I just read it over at BloodyDisgusting.com) .. but apparently writer Williamson has not only decided to write the 4th film in the series, but has talked producers into making it another trilogy. He said that after initially turning down the chance to write the 4th installment, he sat down and thought about it more...and was apparently hit with this great idea for a second trilogy.
Now, I dunno how I feel about this. On the one hand, I have enjoyed the Scream series. Yet on the other hand (especially considering the third one wasn't all that great) I feel that they've gone as far as they could with this story and should just leave it as is.
I don't doubt Williamson as a writer... he's done good work. I just don't think there's anything left to tell of the story. I mean, initially it was TRILOGY for a reason. The third film was supposed to wrap things up for good. Unless they make the killer(s) Gale, Dewey or Sid in the next one.. who's left?
Which brings me to my second concern:
The fact that they have indeed got Neve Campbell to change her mind and reprise the role of Sid. Apparently Williamson had "big things" planned for her character. This leads me to believe two possible outcomes:
1. Sid actually WILL be the killer in this next movie.. having been driven moderately insane by all her trauma. (However, this guess is easily the most obvious... and I think I can give Williamson a little more credit than being that transparent.)
2. Sid will finally be taken down in this movie.
(possibly along with Dewey and Gale as Williamson said "The three characters that will be returning are Sidney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courtney Cox) and Dewey (David Arquette), Williamson confirmed, adding, "We'll also be introducing a little group, a little ensemble of new cast members. That'll take us through the next three." ) <-- This quote, as I interpret it, means that the three veteran actors of the story will not be in the final two movies. Their fates will be decided in Scream 4. Which sucks just as much as option 1, in my opinion. These characters are the three best of the series. (not to mention the only three left)
I'd hate for Sid to be the killer... but I'd also hate for her to be killed. Same goes for Dewey and Gale I suppose.. but more so for Sid. It'd be kind of cheap to have seen her go through so much.. only to either become her worst nightmare outright, or be killed by it.
What do you guys think of this news?
