And then there was one.

After an intense months-long search, Warner Bros. has settled on Ryan Reynolds as its choice to play Green Lantern, the studios live-action tentpole based on the DC Comics hero. The film is being directed by Martin Campbell and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti.

Reynolds and his camp entered negotiations for the part Friday, after the studio held two rounds of screen tests, along with actors Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. Justin Timberlake also did a screen test.
.
The studio had holding options on the actors, but, except for Reynolds, those expired Monday. Reynolds option would have expired end of day Friday.

One reason for the long search was De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.

If the deal is completed, it would make Reynolds the only actor to have played heroes for both Marvel and DC. He recently starred in a comic book movie, Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," where he played "the merc with a mouth" Deadpool. The character is now being developed for a spin-off to which Reynolds is attached. He also played Marvels vampire hunter Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity.

Lantern is actually Reynolds second stab at a DC Comics hero. A few years ago, he was attached to play the comic companys speedster The Flash.

sweet bout time
For those who are curious, yes I am gone and I don't intend to be back soon. I never formally said goodbye to you all, because that always becomes a forum stink. However, to my friends here, I wish you the best. Perhaps I'll be back one day but for now this is goodbye.

Yeah, I thought the exact same thing...Timberlake never made it as far as the article leads on though. The top three in the running were really Bradly Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, and Jared Leto. I think they threw Timberlake out there to get the fans riled up, and get some talk going about the movie.

ryan reynolds would have been perfect for the flash. if he's trying to be a jokster, his performance will suck (i think)

kind of surprised that david boreanez didnt get a shot, although i guess he's never carried a pic on his own. bradley cooper coulda rocked it.

I couldn't say. all I've seen him in is law and order. As reynolds tho, I agree he would make a better flash but I think he can pull a good green lantern.

seeing as Ryan Reynolds is playing the part I kinda get the feeling he isn't going to be John Stewart. Sorry to type cast but he just doesn't look the part.

Reynolds will be fine as GL, just as long as he does the part straight and doesn't try to overact as he has done in every other movie/show he was in. Honestly, while I don't think any of them deserved the role. Both Reynolds and Cooper where capable of pulling off the GL fairly well, but I still think that they should have at the very least, reached out to Nathan Fillion. Also, I doubt they would even bother casting "John Stewart", and I am not sure why anyone would even think that they would. I mean, they may have a cameo, but I don't see the need for anything more. This is likely going to be Hal's Origin story, and John wasn't selected as the initial backup, Gardner was. So I would predict Gardner to make a cameo well before Stewart.

I am more concerned with the Sinestro casting. I mean who would they go for? I would go for something like Jason Isaacs...but you never know who they will pick.

i think they made a great choice with ryan, he played deadpool and hannibal king really well and although hal jorden is a more serious character, ryan finally gets to be the main superhero of a story for a change, he wont blow it.

fred, i think you might have the wrong person in mind as i dont think bradley cooper was in law and order.

his first major role was in alias, he played the jerk in wedding crashers, and was in that recent hangover movie.

as for reynolds, i just hope he doesnt joke too much as doesnt fit the part to me.

Bradley Cooper actually did infact play in Law and Order (it was only 1 episode though)
